The water is being distributed in a plastic cup.

It should be served in a 7 oz. or 9 oz. PAPER cup.  Never use styrofoam or plastic.  Pre-pour the water approximately 2/3 full and hand it to the runner by holding the rim, or let the cup stand in your open palm.  The runner will grab the middle of the cup (so don't place your hand there), flatten the cup, and drink the water while running.  If you use anything other than paper cups, the cup cannot be flattened without it breaking, and the runner will either have to stop to drink or risk water running up his/her nose.
