Orlando FL has cancelled its Christmas Parade because of insufficient sponsorship.
Companies are still sponsoring lots of different types of events, so the economy is not solely to blame. The real issue is that sponsors don't believe they'll get enough value out of the parade.
The tough economy is forcing companies to be more strategic in their use of sponsorship dollars - something they should have been doing, anyway.
So, when pitching a sponsorship, demonstrate the value of the deal to the company.
Think from the point of view of the sponsor, not the event. Know what the company considers valuable and determine how it can really benefit from sponsoring your race.
