Goody bags
There is mixed opinion among race directors regarding the value of a goody bag. Many races don't offer one, not because they question its marketing value, but, more often, they don't want to spend the time or expense to obtain bags and inserts, and to stuff, store, and distribute them.
Goody bags have long served as receptacles for important information runners want or organizers think they need, such as course maps, hot or cold weather running tips, t-shirts, and race evaluation forms.
Bags have also included information about the host organization, entry forms for other races, coupons, and sponsor inserts.
Many runners won't even look inside the bag if they think it only includes paper. They will peer into it, though, if it appears to contain useful items or food. If the bag can be reused, they may dump the contents and keep the bag.
So, if you think a goody bag will add value to the runners' experience, provide one.
