What makes your event unique?

That was the leadoff question posed by David Patt at the annual race director training session on March 20 in Livonia MI.

The question was repeated by Hal Wolfe, director of the Dexter to Ann Arbor Run, in his discussion about how to market a running event, and surfaced in the sponsorship presentation by Don Kern, director of the Grand Rapids Marathon.

Why should someone run in your race instead of another race, instead of participating in or attending a different type of event, or instead of sleeping late that morning?

Your race needs to stand out by offering something that runners want and that they cannot get at another event.
