Meet sponsor needs
Attendees at the February 6 race director training in Park Ridge IL were told to customize sponsorship pitches and to not send the same proposal to every company.
"You are not selling tickets to a banquet," declared David Patt, Executive Director of Association of Running Event Directors. "You are negotiating a business deal, and each potential sponsor has different needs and interests."
Speakers from Fleet Feet Sports and NovaCare Rehabilitation explained how they make sponsorship decisions and reiterated that race directors need to design a sponsorship that meets their company's needs.
"Do you want a sponsorship or a donation," asked Mark Colpoys, of Fleet Feet Sports. The two are very different.
