Calendar competition

August racing opportunities haven't always been abundant, as runners shunned the heat and race directors avoided conflict with school schedules and huge public events.

That situation has changed, now, as race organizers have eagerly plugged the calendar holes in many locales, including Central Iowa.

So, don't count on finding empty dates in the summer months.  Plan far enough ahead so you can select the date you want and not be pre-empted by other races.

We have worked hard to ensure our racing calendar is well publicized and that we reach out to the RD's to ensure they look at the calendar before contemplating a date shift. Seems like every year or so we get 2 or three new events in the area who drop in on established dates and then can't figure out why their event didn't draw like they anticipated and leaving the established races on a flat growth rate for that particular year. Conflicts hurt all events involved. I'll help any new RD in getting started but will spare no mercy when it comes to competing for participants in our fairly limited market.
