"Putting our name on a t-shirt or banner doesn't cut it," declared Renee Mahon, of Whole Foods Market, at the February 28 Race Director training in Livonia MI.

"We want access to the masses."

Nearly fifty race directors from Michigan and Ohio gleaned wisdom from sponsors, event promoters, runners, management companies, and others about how to produce a successful race.

Sponsorship information emphasized the need to customize proposals to address the needs of each specific company.

"Ask the sponsor what they hope to get out of an event," Mahon advised. "And don't ask for money right off the bat."

Sponsorship is about connecting sponsors with your market in a way that benefits the sponsor.  Sponsorship is a business deal, not a donation.
