Who's running?

Some races post lists of registrants, so you can see who else has signed up for the race.  That seems like a real privacy invasion.

Why do races do that?

Despite being an invasion of privacy, I kind of like the idea. Think if you were considering signing up for a race but you weren’t sure. You look at the list of people register and you see a few old friends are running. How fun! As a young adult and a user of Facebook, this concept is nothing new. On Facebook, you get invited to events and if you RSVP Yes you are put on the guest list. Its a very new age way of bringing people together; by sharing people's information such as their social life. However, on Facebook, you can opt out of be included on an event's guest list (or on the people of RSVP'd No). If you gave people the option of being included in a public list of registered runners, they get a chance to make the decision for them self.

Can runners opt out of being posted on the pre-registration list?
