Small races and the economy
There's some feeling that small races are suffering with the economic downturn while large races appear to be thriving.
Many small races were financially marginal even before the stock market slide. Sponsors favored larger races because of the greater marketing opportunities available to them.
Race directors of small events should examine their opportunities very carefully. Charities should consider events with less overhead.
Everybody needs to think more strategically when making decisions about marketing, operations, and fund-raising - in good times and in bad times.
