Toll-free lines
I came across a race that offered a toll-free line, but only for local callers!
That makes no sense.
Local people can make a local call. Most runners have no need to call a race, anyway. All the information they need is - or should be - in the printed entry form and on the web site.
If you are going to offer toll-free calling, it should be available to out-of-town runners to save them the cost of a long-distance telephone call.
If you don't expect a lot of out-of-towners, or if you don't want to absorb the cost, then don't offer toll-free calling. Nobody expects it and nobody will miss it.
