Sponsor controversy

When soliciting sponsors, be aware of controversy that may exist because of their political or public relations activities.  Also be prepared to make the case to sponsors who may be concerned about policies your event or organization is identified with.

Atlanta Pride recently turned down a sponsorship because of the perception of discrimination issues.

Coca-Cola and Adidas are among the many companies faced with protests over their sponsorship of the Olympic Games.

Balance the pros and cons of each sponsor relationship and avoid situations that may embroil you in issues that have nothing to do with your event.
