Sponsor reactions

The U.S. Smokeless Tobacco Company has withdrawn a $200,000 sponsorship from the Greeley Stampede rodeo because the City Council banned free tobacco samples.

The event was forced to comply with a local government requirement that diluted a sponsorship benefit.  A similar problem could have affected a race.

Always be aware of government regulations and community mores that may dictate how you are able to deal with sponsors.

Some local governments prohibit sampling of any kind.  Some communities (e.g. schools) do not allow alcoholic beverages in events.

Think through every perspective when signing a sponsor to make sure you will be allowed to deliver what you promised.
