Keep it short

Try to keep the name of your race short.  It will be easier for runners to remember and more likely to appear completely on race calendars and in the media.

The North Shore Half Marathon, in Highland Park IL, is a mainstay on the Chicago running scene.  Several years ago, it partnered with Misericordia, a highly regarded home for developmentally disabled children and adults, and included the organization's name in the race name.

Since the new name was too long, running groups and media shortened it, often using different versions and usually omitting Misericordia.

Wisely, the organization name was dropped from the title, but is still promoted in marketing materials for the race.

By the way, the race also does a good job of describing the course, telling what portions are flat or hilly, and mentioning the "Famous Park Avenue Beach Hill," a steep climb for Chicagoans accustomed to flat terrain.  Telling runners what to expect is always a good policy.
