It's not about beer

We seem to be attracted to races with names that can be misinterpreted by runners.

The Run for the Buds 5k, in St. Joseph MI, is part of the Blossomtime celebration.  The "Buds" refers to flowers, not booze.  The event, endorsed by the Governor's Council on Physical Fitness, also hosts a Pasta Party the night before the race.

You won't find any buffalo at the Buffalo Trace Race, a 5-mile trail run in  Mahomet IL.  The course, though, follows a path stomped down long ago by herds of buffalo that once grazed on the Illinois prairie.  Race organizers remind runners they may encounter hidden rocks, roots, water, and mud.

Selecting a race name with multiple meanings may attract more attention.  Just be sure the name is derived from a factual event.
