T-shirt awards
T-shirt preferences vary tremendously among runners. Some like a big logo on the front, others favor a small logo on the left chest. Many don't like logo "billboards" on the back of the shirt, especially if they include businesses that are not related to running.
Colored shirts are often more popular than white shirts, and runners prefer more color and artwork in the design. Unfortunately, most running shirts are too ugly to be worn by anybody other than a runner. We wear them to display our athletic accomplishments (and, sometimes, to promote inside jokes about the event).
Michigan Runner magazine recently viewed a variety of t-shirts and named its five favorites. In no particular order, they are from Dances with Dirt, in Hell and Pickney; Plymouth Y Father's Day Run, in Plymouth; The Legend, in Laingsburg; Martian Marathon, in Dearborn Heights; and Run Thru Hell, in Pinckney.
Grab a mag and see what you think. Beauty, of course, is in the eye of the beholder.
