The sponsors' point of view
The 74 race directors from Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin who attended the Race Director training on February 2 in Westchester IL were advised to tailor each sponsorship proposal to the needs of that particular company.
Representatives of Hinckley Springs and WTMX-FM explained how their companies made sponsorship decisions and stressed what was important to each of them.
Knowing the company was the most important advice given. Race directors will be more likely to secure sponsorships if they submit a customized proposal to each company and not send the same, "boilerplate" proposal to everybody.
All sponsors are different, and each measures the effectiveness of its sponsorships in a different way.
"Think from the sponsors point of view," was the main directive. Also, remember that sponsorship is not a donation.
