Racing in the highway

The Illinois Tollway Authority commemorated the extension of I-355 with a 5k run and 20-mile bike ride on the newly constructed roadway.

The run was hosted by Salute, Inc. and the Illinois Department of Veterans' Affairs to raise funds for active military personnel, veterans, and their families.

When the original leg of the tollway was constructed in 1989, runners had the opportunity to race the entire length before it was opened to traffic.

Although running on concrete is not great for the knees, most runners think it is really cool to race on a course where running will never again take place.
