Unusual racers
Runners sometimes do unusual things during a race. A competitor at the Volkslaufe 5k, in Frankenmuth MI, dribbled basketballs from start to finish. One runner at The LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon juggled squash beanbags for the duration of the 26.2 mile race.
Some races have attracted waiters who ran the entire distance carring trays with filled bottles and glasses. In fact, the Portland Bastille Day Festival, in Portland OR, featured a race just for waiters, who were required to wear long sleeve shirts, bowties and aprons.
If you observe a runner in your race displaying unusual (but acceptable) behavior, snap a picture for your post-race publicity. If you know about it beforehand, dispatch a photographer on race day to capture the image and alert the local newspaper and television station to the photo opportunity. It may not be the type of publicity you want, but it's better than no publicity.
