Minneapolis Bridge Collapse

The tragic collapse of the I-35 bridge in Minneapolis MN was a horrible experience for victims and their families, as well as for the many people who traverse the Mississippi River at that point every day.

For runners who would have raced across the bridge in the Twin Cities Marathon 10-miler, it was a frightening reminder of the reality of an unexpected disaster.

Race organizers, though, have risen above their grief and are patching together a new course for the October 7 event.

Other events, like the Mardi Gras Marathon in New Orleans LA, have had to reroute courses due to storms, flooding, or occurences beyond their control.

Although few experience devastation of this type, savvy organizers know the importance of acting quickly to maintain the integrity of the event and to assure participants, spectators, and neighbors that they will be able to overcome adversity.
