Is there a doctor in the house (or on the race course)?

The professionals who staff the medical tent at many races – physicians, nurses, physical therapists, and others – know what an important role they play in the production of races.  Many stay abreast of developments in sports medicine by attending educational sessions and discussing runners' health needs with their peers.

The American Road Race Medical Society will present a symposium on “Medical Management of Endurance Events,” in conjunction with this year's Marine Corps Marathon, October 26-27 in Washington D.C.

Workshop topics address a host of health and injury issues that medical staff expect to deal with in marathons and other distance events.

Medical staff is necessary at all races – even small 5k events.  So, let's encourage all of our supporters in the medical and health professions to continue learning what's necessary to treat runners who require special care at races.   Well-trained medical professionals are essential on race day - to deal with dehydration, cuts and bruises, or just some badly knotted muscles.
