When Mayors run

Did you see last week's news coverage of Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa running?

Reporters, seeking an interview on the eve of the U.S. Olympic Committee's selection of a host city for the 2016 events, questioned him as he finished his training run. (L.A. lost its bid to Chicago).

Municipal business also mixed with running when Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak walked onstage in sweaty, running gear to welcome attendees of the 2004 annual meeting of the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE), following his morning run.

Mayors and Village Presidents who run will be much more supportive of race directors' needs for street closings, city services, and reasonable municipal fees.  Find out the athletic inclination of your local leaders and get them involved in your event.
