Certify Your Race Course!

There is no excuse for not getting USATF certification for your race course.  It's the only way to guarantee the distance is exactly what you advertised.  A car odometer is not a valid measurement, and neither is walking the course yourself with a Jones Counter.

If the course is not certified, it may be too long or too short and records set by runners won't count.  Certification is not the same as sanctioning (that's insurance coverage). Contact USA Track & Field and get your race course certified!  It's a very small cost to give runners what you say you are giving them.

Cost of Certification: What is the average cost to get your course certified for a 5k and for a half marathon? Thank you for your assistance.

It varies by state, distance, and number of runners. A small 5k may cost around $100. Go to the USATF web site at http://www.usatf.org/events/courses/certification/ and contact a certifier in your state. That person will explain the procedure and tell you the cost.
